What compiler are you using? I have seen a similar problem on a long
outdated version of gcc, where autocasting from double to integer
propagated an unwanted sign bit. I suspect that is close to what
is happening here. See whether there is any place in the C code
where the lower part of a double is presumed to be autocast to a
double and try an explicit cast. I had to do a lot of that some
two years ago.
